Charleston ENT’s Hearing Health Resolutions

Happy New Year! If you’ve made New Year’s Resolutions this year, consider adding in some hearing health-related resolutions in addition to resolutions to exercise more and save more money. Here are the resolutions on our list to get you feeling inspired!

Update Your Audiogram

When was the last time you had your hearing tested? It’s a good idea to have your hearing tested every few years to update your audiogram, or hearing test results. It’s recommended that you get your hearing tested every five years between the ages of 50 and 64, and then tested every one to three years once you’re over 65.

Your audiogram displays what pitches you can hear and which pitches you struggle to hear, and your audiologist will use the results to monitor the progression of your hearing loss and what you might need regarding hearing loss treatment. If you’ve been putting off updating your audiogram, 2026 is the perfect time to get it done.

Take Care of Your Hearing Aids

It’s our resolution every year to take care of your hearing aids and keep them in good working order. These essential devices keep you connected to the world around you, and they’re a significant investment. We don’t take this lightly.

You can also resolve to take better care of your hearing aids by committing to a daily cleaning regimen if you’ve let that slide recently. You should be cleaning your hearing aids every night, when you take them out before bed (you’re not wearing your hearing aids to sleep, right?). Wipe them down with a soft cloth and remove any stubborn earwax build-up with your wax pick or wax loop.

Socialize with Confidence

Hearing loss can often cause people to withdraw from social settings, which leads to a rise in loneliness, social isolation, depression and cognitive decline. Don’t let hearing loss prevent you from getting your social needs met in 2026. Hearing aids help with speech amplification and background noise suppression, making following a conversation easier than before, even in noisy settings.

We made these resolutions with you in mind. We are here to support your hearing health needs throughout the year. Call Charleston ENT & Allergy today to schedule a hearing test or initiate the process of getting hearing aids.
