The Surgery Center of Charleston is an independent, accredited surgical facility located at 1849 Savage Road in West Ashley. The Center provides the highest quality outpatient surgical services and pre/post-operative care, while controlling costs and focusing on patient convenience. The facility was specifically designed for outpatient surgery and has been staffed and supplied with all equipment and personnel necessary to meet the needs of children and adults requiring surgery and general anesthesia.

Accreditation

The Surgery Center of Charleston is accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Healthcare (AAAHC) and, earlier, by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO). Our Operating Rooms meet or exceed the same rigorous standards imposed on major hospitals.

Surgeons

Each surgeon granted privileges at The Surgery Center of Charleston is required to be board certified by their respective specialty board, or board eligible and in the process of board certification.

Anesthesia Services

Anesthetics at the Surgery Center of Charleston are provided by board certified anesthesiologists that also hold certification in pediatric anesthesia.

Specialty Care for Children

The experts at The Surgery Center of Charleston understand that surgery can be a big step for children, especially those who may have never undergone such a procedure before. That’s why we have partnered with Laura Zucker, a certified Child Life Specialist, to make this the best experience possible.

What is a Child Life Specialist?

Child Life Specialists work with children in families that are going through tough or unprecedented life-changing events, including surgeries. These specialists, such as Laura Zucker of Funktional Play, help guide families through times of uncertainty that might provoke thoughts of fear, confusion or loss of control.

Services Provided

Certified Child Life Specialists are key in preparing children for outpatient surgeries through exploration and comfort provided to fellow family members. Zucker will provide therapy, playful exercises and other coping strategies to help ensure that your child is as comfortable as possible while at the Surgery Center of Charleston.

About Laura

Laura Zucker was inspired to become a Child Life Specialist after undergoing numerous surgeries herself at age 8. Zucker has since worked to help children through their own pediatric surgery experiences. She also works with children through visits to adult hospitals, family courts and funeral homes.
